My Mother at 16

My mother's birthday is April 2nd, She will be 91, Yes she was in her 70s when she had me. She is having a party at her house today. Doing all the preparations herself. She is a busy one. Her eldest sister died a few monthes ago, at age 99, and one of my mother's remarks was "well, I am in charge now" She was young when she married my dad and I wish I could say that they had a long and lovely life but my Dad died when I was quite young. I have an older brother and sister but after we all got out of high school she remarried and I have a younger brother. But Gus died before the baby was born and my mother carried on like the trouper she is. After John got out of high school she remarried again and she and George has 20 great years together. I think she should write a book or leave something for posteriety in her words. She's quite a lady. She has a good sense of humor and can be so silly just so we all will laugh.

Hidden Garden

I took Dave for a ride today. As we were tooling around the Valley I spotted this hidden garden. there was a driveway and parking spots, so I figured we were supposed to go in there.

there were lots of rhodys ready to bloom and all these evergreens that Edward scissors hands had gotten a-hold of. But very interesting. a place where you could bring a sandwich and contemplate the art of being. MB

Maw and Paw

This pair of chairs is on a small porch on a large white barn. It looks like Maw and Paw should be sitting there. Maw shelling peas and Paw admiring the sweet woman he married.

My sidekick Sassy

I am out in the pasture working on a cross fence. Me 'n Sassy. Sassy spots a mole hill and knows the mole is right there. Dig , dig and more digging.

And more digging. I had to pull her away. terriers!!

Off she goes to one of the waterers---in she goes-round and round


At least she gave herself her own bath. Terriers!!

Sunday late afternoon looking east

Monday morning out my bedroom also looking east and a little southish. Monday turned out to be a beautiful day with an actual warming sun. In the 50s.

Flowers and fences

Bellis Daisy. They are weeds when they grow in the lawn and flowers when in a flower bed. I like them where-ever they grow.

This is a white bike fence. I wish I had a better picture. I took two and this is the best. oops! It is on Chuckanut Dr on the way to Bellingham.

Farm girl tough

I have 4 daughters and they all own trucks. Jolene's new truck!

Jolene just traded her old truck in on a newer one. Why do they have to have such HUGE trucks? They are real cowgirls, or farm girls.

The couple

I hope you can see them. They won't let me get closer. They are walking away from me now and i am up on my deck.


Every Spring we have a pair of Canadian Honkers stay with us for awhile. It must be a honeymoon by the lake. The have babies and we watch them until one day they fly away.

Garden Bed

I spent all winter (well maybe not) thinking what I was going to put in my garden bed and now I know. So far the winner is--drum roll please---IMPATIENS. Maybe stripes, maybe mixed maybe a pillow color and different for a blanket. That I haven't figured out yet. But impatiens mound real pretty if they are mass planted. What do ya think? Can't you just picture it?

Off to Mom's

This is the Keystone Ferry dock and the ferry Klickatat one of the smallest boats because this dock is very small and shallow.

This hill is on Admirality Inlet and I believe the farmer who owned all the farm land gave it to the Island to become a park.

Red Letter Day

Yay, the chipper is here!!

Sassy mesmerized by the noisy motor. Sassy trying to jump in the dump along with the chips. Crazy dog.


Boy oh boy!! Today was a red letter day. The chipper came today. Yeehaw!! Now finally the storm debris can be chopped to smithereens. My son-in-law and helper brought it up. We all worked so hard today that for me it really felt good. But now that I write this I am TIRED. But in a good way. I made them lunch-sloppy joes and mexican rice-water to drink. Today is cold, with a cold wind but when you are working it feels invigorating. Sassy, the dog, is intrigued by any motor and the louder the better. She just watches and hopes something would pop out so she could...? It was amazing how fast the huge piles disappeared. We filled up the dump trailer twice and they dumped it by my compost pile. Now I have bunches of chips to play in all summer.

Amish apron

My new/old used (?) vintage Amish apron. Isn't it nice. I couldn't figure how to take a good pic so I just hung it on a door. I guess you get the idea. MB

Farm Girl

Here is a picture of my oldest daughter when she was the onlyest. She is 6 1/2 monthes old, sitting in the grass and chewing on some also. I don't know who took this picture but I am sitting behind her and if you notice, we are wearing matching dresses that I made. Is that corny or what. I think she looks pretty cute.

This is Puss in Boots hiding in a horse blanket. Actually she was hiding from the dogs. Today is wet and soggy, so it would be a good day to hide in a blanket and be warm and snuggy.

Counting Koi

Pretty day. Pretty water. Pretty heron.

The Koi disappear all winter and return when the surface water warms up I guess. We have 14. they are getting big.

Dark, Wet and Pretty

It has been wet and windy and then warm and wet and windy. Angry sky.

These pretty flowering cherry trees framing an old farmhouse.

Let's hope the weather decides to warm up and not be so WET. the rivers hit flood level and are receding but some farmlands are huge lakes. Of course when it gets warm then it rains in the mountains and the snow melts and the rivers rise and it is just an endless circle. Ah nature.

March Macro Madness and Other Silliness

Sunday we had a wicked wind storm and so of course our power was out until late into the night, almost morning. My eldest grandson, Mike, spent the day and he is a photo-bug and into macro now. So we bundled and out we went to take some pictures. Here is the wind on the pond and my heron. That just shows ripples but it really was WINDY. I can't wait to see Mike's pictures. He will take his film to school and develope it there.

My Magnolia tree has tons of buds and they are just beginning to crack color. Yay!!
