Chinese Lanterns

Popular for the papery bright-orange lantern pods that develop around the ripening fruit, these are often cut and used for Thanksgiving and Halloween arrangements. Plants are aggressive spreaders, and best kept out of the perennial border so they don't take over. Also can be grown in tubs. Small white flowers appear in midsummer, over a bushy mound of coarse green leaves. Pods are green at first, but should be harvested as soon as the orange colour develops, the leaves stripped then stems hung upside down to dry in a warm dark room.

Watercolor for Janice

Janice I thought this first picture looked like a watercolor and reminded me of you. (I hope I am right). The second picture was taken 2 minutes later--both from my deck . The first pic just to the left of Mt. Rainier. I took these Sunday morning and it has rained ever since.--well almost. MB

Just enjoying

The days are beautiful again. High 60s to low 70s, the air is clear and all the mountains are out. Perfect for me. I had stopped to enjoy Mt. Baker and show her to a friend. An Eagle was flying about trying to land and pick up a tasty morsel of roadkill. So I have a pic of the mountain and an Eagle almost out of the frame. the best I could do.

This is a new horse. She is trading one horse and will get this guy plus some money and she will be working with this big guy.

Fishing

A boat full of fisherpersons (politically correct, whew). I wonder if they caught anything besides an elbow to the jaw. And what about the plunkers--they seem mighty happy. I wonder what they are up to--no good!!

Summertime in a small town
