I took these today down in Skagit Valley--It was a nice day. We still have a few feet of snow at our house but seeing that the valley is almost sealevel--they have NO snow.

Snoqualmie Falls

When Kylee and I started out on our road trip last Friday the very first place we stopped was Snoqualmie Falls which is on the Snoqualmie River. It was a nice cool sunny day and the spray from the falls was like raindrops. It also makes the picture a little fuzzy.

Country Roads

The state of Washington is pretty much cut in half--north to south--by the Cascade mountains. Eastern Washington hot and dry Western Washington wet wet and covered with mostly conifers so it seems green at all times.
Here is a country road on the West side.




This is a country road in Adams County in Eastern Washington. Flat and dry--excellent ranch and wheat country. Ritzville, where my daughter liver, is in Adams County.

The Greening of Eastern Washington

I took this pic Jan. 6th in Ritzville, Wa.. Winter Wheat is planted in the Fall. Winter wheat sprouts before freezing occurs, then becomes dormant until the soil warms in the spring. Winter wheat needs a few weeks of cold before being able to flower, however persistent snow cover might be disadvantageous. It is ready to be harvested by early July. Amazing!



I took these pictures the past week-end in Ritzville Wa. It is a Winter Wheat or other grain crop probably planted in the late Fall to come up in Winter. The bare brown fields look so glowing. They look like green velvet.
Now in Western Washington we are green all year long. MB

It was dark out......

Had one of those huge round bales of hay in the back of the truck and took it out to the horses--it takes at least two to roll it out. By the time we got to it, it was dark out and then the moon broke through the clouds. So pretty. And it really was this dark out. We work by head light. HA!!


I am going to be gone until Monday so everyone enjoy the week-end. MB

......it will be Spring here in the PNW.

By the end of the this month (February) this will be a field of Golden Daffolils. I took the second picture last year Feb. 27th.





In a month and a half the top picture will look like the bottom picture. Lovely Tulips. The valley will be full of color.

Lost at Sea Tragedy

There is a small memorial park next to the WT Preston at the Marine Museum honoring the lost fishermen from the boats the Altair and Americus.
It is a great tragedy experienced by a city when two fishing boats from Anacortes, with 14 aboard, go down in the Bering Sea on Valentine's Day. The sinking of the Americus and the Altair stuns city residents. almost a generation of fishermen lost at once. Fathers and sons and husbands and friends.

Two views from Mt. Erie

Mt. Erie is actually only a large hill being only 1300ft. But it has some terrific views and here are a couple. This is looking Northwest out towards the San Juan Islands. See the marina tucked in a bay. Skyline Marina.
