Rainy Day Celebration~~~Mosaic Monday

Today was a gray, nasty , rainy day. A friend and I decided we needed a quick road trip to celebrate the end of January. We headed up the North Cascades Highway. It was drizzely all the way. We stopped at the town of Newhalem (closed during the winter except for a few hardy souls) and took a walk on the Trail of Cedars. We were so surprised there was no snow. Very strange---we are up in the mountains.

Sweet pony for sepia scenes

This is a gray mini horse. The grass stayed green through the sepia process. The only way to eliminate it was to white out everything but I like the touch of color. MB

Sold as Amaryllis----but not

The bulb for this flower is widely sold as an Amaryllis and is not a true Amaryllis but does belong to the Amaryllis family. A true Amaryllis is also called a Belladonna Lily and Naked Lady. A naked Lady grows well in Western Oregon and Washington. Outside that is. Interesting, no???

Hippeastrum is a popular bulb flower for indoor growing at Christmas time. It is otherwise easy to grow, with large rewards for small efforts, especially those that bloom inside during the winter months. The very large, decorative flowers can also be grown outside in temperate zones.

Found in the garden today.

Little buds ready to pop open.
1&2. Helleborus buds---they should be open already but were buried under a pile of leaves.
3. Crocus coming up but won't be blooming for a few more weeks. But a sure sign of spring. Maybe I am pushing it a little.
4&5. LOOK!!! Pussy Willows---Now that is a sign of Spring.

Sorry all you people still covered in snow. MB
