It is snowing....leaves

I have 4 large Sycamores plus a Birch and Japanese Maple by the driveway near the front door of my house. I love the leaves as they fall. I leave them through the winter for mulch on the wooodland garden. But early Spring means lots of raking.
Sycamores have huge leaves that look similar to Big-leaf Maple.

It's the Plover not the Minnow

I took this picture at some boating happening at Semiahmoo. All kinds of boats on the water. This one is historic. But I don't think Gilligan was there.The ferry boat MV Plover plies the narrow inlet between the Blaine Marina and the end of Semiahmoo spit. Built in 1944 to carry workmen from Blaine to the salmon cannery on Semiahmoo. Like the bird it’s named after, the Plover is small and seldom far from shore. Crafted of fir and cedar, it measures 32 feet long and less than 10 ft wide, yet weighs over 11 tons. The Plover is the oldest foot passenger ferry in the State and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.




The vessel is Coast Guard rated to carry 17 passengers, but bicyclists, strollers, and even well-behaved dogs may also come aboard when there is room. The two-person crew provides interesting commentary on the Plover’s restoration and the many diverse sights along the short crossing. Sights which may include British Columbia's Coast Mountains, basking seals, soaring eagles, stalking herons, and maybe even a shipwreck

Waiting for your turn

These tankers are waiting their turn to dock at the oil refinery and load up and be outa here. They are at Padilla Bay in Skagit Valley. And I believe those are the Canadian Cascades in the distance. . MB

I tried for the longest time to upload a photo for this blog and blogger just said NO! So I tried another picture--no luck so I was ready to blow my stack--seemed perfect. It worked!! MB

Shopping

Very nice Trading Post. Lots of native made items. A whole section devoted the olden handicrafts. Right now there is a collection from British Columbia. Baskets, woven bottles, masks, dolls and coastal Indian art --older and newer items. Amazing. The Swinomish Reservation is not too far from from where I live. MB

Morning glow on tree

This tree is just on the edge of the back pasture. I was out feeding the goats and watching the sun rise when I caught this glow. The sunrise was pretty but so was this. MB

How I spent my Summer ~~~~My Tuesday

Not last summer but for 3 summers I have spent part of the time at a lookout tower in the southern Oregon wilderness. Once it was oh so hot and another so very cold and rainy and another so windy the whole tower swayed thither and yon.
1. The Lookout
2. A view to the west. When it is clear you can see mountains and all the way to the Pacific Ocean. but here it looks like we are on top of everything.
3. The little road to the out house where you have the best view ever. Leave the door open--there's nobody else around.
